Busy Week!

Well, I'm not quite sure what to blog about today. Normally I do my "update" post today, but I sort of did that on Monday. Bad planning on my part. Oh well, I guess I can still talk about some of my writing stuff. I have a lot going on at the moment.

Writing:

-- I am currently working on articles for the Call of the Clans newsletter for my Celtic Hearts Romance Writers group. I need to have four written and I've finished... one. Yep, one. However, I do have the others planned out and I've finished most of the research. I'm hoping I can complete another article after I finish this post =)

--I've been doing a lot of pimping of friends books recently. I also came up with an interview for Diana Paz, who will be joining us on March 6th, so make sure you stop by for that!

--Along the same lines, I've set up many other blog posts for later this month. I also plan on writing a few more sometime this week... Maybe.

--I agreed to beta for a friend. Her book should be arriving in my inbox sometime next week or the week after.

--I am also working on my own story--go figure lol. I haven't gotten much done recently, but my brain is stuffed full of new ideas! I can't wait until I can get back to working on it all the time =)

--I have now read eleven books so far this year. I'm almost finished a twelfth (and I might be finished by the time this goes live). I have also tried nine other books that didn't float my boat, so I didn't finish them. I know it sounds like a lot, but luckily I've managed to return them to Amazon or Barnes & Noble for my money back. Sadly, I can be a very picky reader.

I think that might be it. I'm sure I could come up with more, but that seems like a good list!

How has your week been?

Blogging Again & an Epiphany

Hello everyone!

I am back from my blog hiatus. My week with my parents was wonderful, but far too short. We didn't do much of anything--ate, laughed, and relaxed. It was a nice break, and exactly what all of us needed. I spent seven days with my three best friends--what more could I ask for?

On Tuesday, after my parents flew home, we had our final doggy obedience class with Powell. At five months and one week, he graduated with flying colors. He also earned his AKC S.T.A.R PUPPY certification. Yep, that's right, my baby is one smart puppy! We mailed in his official forms and we should receive his "degree" and medal in the mail. Once we have them, I will try to post some pictures.

Powell on graduation night!

In other news, I had a bit of an epiphany this morning. I was attempting to brainstorm for my Highlander romance when I stopped to wonder what critiques an agent might give me in the future. You know, the usual daydreaming about having a brilliant agent who wants to make my story even better before sending it out to an editor ;)

Anyway, I was lying on my bed contemplating how an agent would see my story, when suddenly, the answer came to me. I'm currently working on chapter seven, but my mind has been stuck on chapter three. You see,  I wrote chapter three in a rush, forcing myself to get the words out. Some of them are good, some aren't. To be honest, it's a lot of back story that isn't needed just yet. In any case, the answer on how to cut it down came to me. Hopefully I will be able to fix chapter three and then get back to chapter seven. I know many of you are shaking your heads at me, but I can't seem to leave "bad words" behind. I have tried numerous times, but I can't help it!

So how was your week? Get anything productive done? Have you ever had a weird epiphany like mine?

Blog Hiatus

Hello everyone!

I've decided to go on a blog hiatus for the next week or two while my parents are here. I want to devote my time to them, so I'm going to limit my internet time. I will still respond to emails and I'll be on Facebook and Twitter (since all of those things are accessible on my phone), but I don't think I'll be commenting on blog posts.

I hope you guys have a wonderful few weeks =)

Fifth Week

Hello everyone!

Happy February! I hope January treated you well =) I'm a bit late today posting my weekly update, but I've been a bit busy!

Writing:

-- As some of you know, I've been having a bit of difficulties with my current Highlander story. I adore it, but I get stuck every so often. Unfortunately, when I get stuck that means I'm not getting any words out! So after emailing a good writer friend of mine, I decided to work on a new story idea that's been floating around in my head for a few months now. I have no idea if it's going to amount to anything, but I'm loving it so far, and that's the most important thing. I need to get my writing mojo back ;)

-- I've read two novels since last week (and I'm halfway through a third). I also tried four other novels that ended up being huge busts. It disappoints me so much when books don't work out, but thankfully they are older books I'd picked up at used bookstores. In any case, I enjoyed the three books I read this week =)

Personal:

-- Powell had a better training session yesterday. He's doing very well, and we've noticed he's getting more and more focused, which is wonderful!

-- We've also been busy getting the house ready for my parents to arrive. They'll be here on Tuesday!!

We've been pretty busy this past week with various things--shopping, football, etc... I wanted more time to write but what can you do! So how was your week?

Branding--When is it Too Much?

The topic of branding has been on my mind a lot recently. I write many different genres, so I'm not quite sure how to brand myself as an author. And although agents and editors constantly talk about branding, I often find the idea of it distasteful. Why, you may ask? Well, in my experience, some authors brand themselves a bit too much.

I know one author who is obsessed with chocolate and has chocolate in every single one of her books. It has come to a point where I refuse to read her books now, because her obsession is extremely annoying.

Another author I know has branded herself as one of the dirtiest romance writers out there, pushing the issue to a point where she has been shunned by some of her fellow writers.

Now, those are just two examples. I have more, but I'm afraid they'd become too specific and people might be able to pick them out... which I guess, in a way, means that author successfully branded themselves. But is it a good thing to be known for a brand if it annoys the reader? Hard to say, IMO. I haven't made up my mind on anything--I'm just rambling up here =)

So what do you think? Do you have a specific brand, or are you unsure what you want to do? Have you come across an author brand that annoys you?
